Greetings from Playa Sabalo!

I miss you! Though it's probably safer for you there on campus. The testosterone's running high here at Theta Delta Chi weekend and I'd need to protect you from all of these damned horny brothers! The New York and Boston guys are talking up the east coast for law school - what do you think?

I'm not drinking too much, I promise. At least not as much as the seniors, with their deferments ending soon. At least we have some time before that happens. See you soon --

Just time for a quick note. I miss you.

I'm sorry that we said goodbye last week in anger. We've barely started our life together. I know that you disagree with my decision to enlist, but going to Canada would have ended any chance of law school for me. For us!

I must go, they're calling our transport. Got a letter from Mom yesterday, she said you have some news for me?

Dearest Katie,

My God, she's so beautiful! She looks just like you, your red hair and blue eyes. Though I know I was part of this, I remember the night well! I'm so sorry that I wasn't there for you when she was born. I miss you. Rebecca is a perfect name. For our daughter. I miss you both. Please send more photos --

Dear Kate,

I hope you and our little Rebecca are well. I miss you terribly.

Kate, you were right about this war. I've seen things that I can't bear to describe to you or to even think about. Horrible things. We're just boys, scared boys, fighting and dying in this mistake. I was wrong. I want to come home.

I only have to get through 10 more months. Seems like an eternity. I promise to keep my head low. Please write. Your letters and photos are all that keep me going. Hug our daughter for me.

Dear Kate,

By the time you get this, I'll be out of this God forsaken place and on my way home. Thanks for taking care of the apartment and everything else in New York. NYU, here we come! I can't wait to see you and Rebecca --

Kate, we found him!!

I would have called, but Russ was concerned about his phone being tapped. Randy and I have spent a day and night trying to convince him to come back home with us, but no go. This place is loaded with guys who fled to Canada. What I should have done! I wish I could do more to help them. Hope they can hold on a year until I get my degree.

It's beautiful up here, free and wild. Great cycling. But if we don't start back soon, I'll have used up all of my vacation. A kiss to Rebecca. See you soon --

Kate, sorry, I've gotten hung up here longer than I expected. I've been thinking about taking a leave from the DA's office, to defend these guys. I know this would be hard on you and Rebecca, but they really need a lawyer that believes in them. Think about it, we'll talk when I get home. Should be in a few days --

I couldn't get you by phone - I know I meant to be back in time for Rebecca's birthday, but things are at the breaking point. It's so important that I'm here with them. She'll understand. I'll make it up to her soon, I promise. Kiss her for her dad.
